Select Board approves Senior Center assistant job
Select Board · Meeting of August 11, 2026
Northfield Select Board maps out fire chief handoff and a volunteer stipend fix. Chair Barbara Jacque led an extended update on transitioning Acting Chief Mike Quinn to interim chief, while working to formalize a year-end stipend for firefighters' volunteer truck-maintenance shifts after a legal concern about requiring unpaid work from town employees. "If we are giving you some small compensation, now they can refuse it," Jacque said.
The board unanimously approved a new part-time Senior Center Activities Assistant job description, revised to use "older adult" instead of "senior" or "elderly," and approved warrants totaling $109,912.22 in payroll and $1,130,208.02 in vendor payments. Members also reappointed Donald Baker to the Agricultural Commission and appointed Melissa King to the Cultural Council, both through June 2029, and moved their next meeting to Monday, August 31, to avoid the September 1 state primary. The board closed in executive session, voting 4-0 to discuss contract negotiations with the EMS chief.
